x1775 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from CJ. To uR from CJ. To IE. from CJ. To Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} from CJ. To uP from CJ. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from CJ. To D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} from CJ. To Sd. from CJ. To Lm. from CJ. To Ly. from CJ. Copy to R.{Sir Henry Royce} Mr. Royce has come to the conclusion that the circumstances of the Company demand that Colonel Barrington should devote more time than he has been able to give heretofore to the solution of serious problems. Colonel Barrington has, therefore, been asked to agree to, and has kindly consented to a re-arrangement of the work at Derby which will relieve him of administrative detail and allow him to devote his time to the problems above mentioned. With a view to relieving Colonel Barrington, the Repair Department, the Experimental Department and the Test Department will for the future address themselves directly to the Engineer-in-Chief or the Managing Director without reference to Colonel Barrington; but, in order that Colonel Barrington may be kept au fait with the work of the various departments, copies of the communications should be sent to him. This re-arrangement does not in any way interfere with the authority which Colonel Barrington may exercise as Assistant Engineer. It has been suggested by Mr. Royce to Mr. Day, and Mr. Day has kindly consented, that the following re-arrangement should forthwith become effective:- Mr. Day will for the future, with a small staff, confine his work to designing, pure and simple. When these designs have been approved by the Engineer-in-Chief, they will, in common with similar designs prepared by the Engineer-in-Chief and his Department, be handed to Mr. Bailey, who will be responsible for the preparation of production drawings from these designs. It will be left to Mr. Bailey's discretion as to how far he may depart from the designer's drawings in making production drawings, or in consenting to departures | ||
