CLUTCH.
11" Borg and Beck as on 25/30 HP. except that it will be of the ventilated type.

GEARBOX.
All gears helical, synchromesh on 2nd, 3rd and top, as on P.III. Simplified isolated change gear lever, as compared with 25/30 HP. placed as far back as is practicable to allow for easy access to driver's side of car. Gearbox integral with engine unit supported at the rear on a silent bloc mounting arranged with the object of dispensing with a rigid fore and aft stay for the engine and gearbox unit.

The box is longer than the 25/30 HP. due to the inclusion of 2nd speed synchromesh, and has an extension at the rear to shorten the propeller shaft; the weight is estimated at 10 lbs lighter than the 25/30. The design of the mechanism follows that of the Phantom III.

PROPELLER SHAFT.
Hardy Spicer type - R.R. design incorporating small modifications thought desirable particularly as regards reduction of friction in the sliding joint.

REAR AXLE.
General design as P.III and Bentley, i.e. aluminium centre casing - steel side plates - tapered seamless nickel steel tubes with fully floating hub. Gears .850 hypoid, 4.55: 1 top gear ratio. A reduction of nearly 50% has been made in the material cost of the axle tubes by a modification to the shape which has enabled cheaper forging methods to be used. Increased stiffness of the axle casing and tubes has been provided to reduce wear of the teeth in the hubs by the axle driving pieces.

FRAME.
Wide box section frame and large box section frame cross, electrically spot welded with box section 2nd and battery cross members, to be bought out complete.
