(3) FRONT SUSPENSION. A lightened edition of Phantom III designed to be built as a complete unit with the front pan and bolted to the chassis frame as an axle, so cheapening and facilitating production and assembly. Pivot design follows 25/30 HP. practice. Steering geometry correct to avoid steering joggles. Front suspension dampers either standard or autolock, as P.III. but lightened. FRONT ROLL ROD. Carried in silent bloc bearings with rubber jointed connecting link. Roll rod can be dispensed with if found desirable. STEERING. Special design of Marles box in one piece malleable iron casing. Easy external adjustment to take up slack. Adjustable side and cross steering tubes. Universal steering column for all rakes. (The column will be modified shortly to accommodate the Bluemel Douglas type of driver's adjustment for length). RADIATOR. Loose shell radiator as 25/30 HP. with centre point silent bloc mounting. Diagonal stays behind the matrix. Thermostatically operated shutters. FRONT BRAKES. R.R. cam operation with aluminium shoes and aluminium brake drums with C.I. liners, adjustment similar to P.III. Geometry of operation perfect on rebound and bump. Girling type equaliser with rod operation. REAR BRAKES. R.R. cam operation with aluminium shoes and aluminium brake drums with C.I. liners. Separate hand brake shoe dispensed with, and provision made for complying with legal requirements in the event of the failure of a brake part. Adjustment similar to Phantom III. | ||
