We have been investigating the scored cams on the Delco Distributor which caused trouble on 'B' car. We find that a percentage of the Delco cams are down in hardness. On the other hand, Delcos say that they have never had any trouble from this cause. We have probably aggravated the possibility of scoring cams due to our insisting on Tufnol rubbing blocks. We do not think it is necessary to get alarmed over this failure as the Delco Distributor on 6.B.IV has run over 30.000 miles with a cam having a brinell of only 209, and no trouble has been experienced, in fact, the cam is in a perfectly satisfactory condition. We recommend, however, that the cam hardness should be checked on all further distributors fitted, and all cams below 300 brinell should be replaced. We have a stock of hard cams which we have obtained from Delco Remy's. We have arranged with them that all further cams will be above 400 brinell. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
