re: PHANTOM III CLUTCHES
-----------------------

In order to cure clutch jaggers and also
complaints of clutches being very noisy upon engagement, we
have fitted cushioned plates to the following chassis :-

Chassis 3.AX.185 - Sparrow - Clutch very noisy and jaggered.
" 3.BU. 94 - Villeroy- " " " " "
" 3.BT.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} 9 - Schnur - Clutch jaggered.

There was a very big improvement after
the fitting of the cushioned plates, the clutches were quite
silent upon engagement and free from jaggers.

We note from your Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler}S/AP.IS.8.37
that during July very few long plates of American Manufacture
having 9 springs instead of 6 were dispatched. The cushioned
plates were sent to us by Works on Aug. 5, 19th, and the 6th.
of October.
