XY730 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} P. 2. - EXHAUST SWANNECK. We sent on Sat. the 29. ult., N. sch. 3174., shewing a revised bracket for the swan neck pipe from the 2nd. crossmember for use in connection with N. scheme 3144., and tests on exhaust systems as outlined on DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}6/201130. The object of this design of bracket is to allow for the expansion of the exhaust system without distorting the curvature of the pipe. It is hoped that this bracket will not be needed as well as the one at the fishtail, and we wish Derby to say which to use, or whether both are needed. On tests here we found that when the bracket at the 2nd. crossmember was deleted the swan neck boomed, and that a bracket at the fish tail was not a cure. We suggest that Derby give the Expl. Dept. a similar design for the 25HP. for test purposes. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
