| X240 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.23/KW. Exptl. Dept. 25th October, 1934. Messrs. John Marston Limited, Paul Street Works, Wolverhampton. For the attention of Mr. Dalrymple. Dear Sirs, We have been testing two of your Mark V Matrices, one of 58 m.m. thickness, and one of 70 m.m. thickness, and are at a loss to reconcile the results. The tests have been direct comparisons of the cooling obtained on a car with each matrix fitted in turn, and have been carried out at Brooklands. We have been unable to detect any difference in cooling between these two matrices within the limits of experimental error. We understand from the Harrison Corporation that discrepancies in cooling figures for similar radiators are likely to occur unless the most scrupulous care is taken that the correct details of construction, materials etc. are adhered to, and that they definitely test a percentage of production radiators to ensure the consistency of their product. In view of this we are concerned at the above lack of consistency between the two radiator matrices supplied by yourselves. Further, we have tested two 58 m.m. matrices supplied by yourselves, and find them to differ by 5%. We should like your explanation of these facts, and also the extent to which you would expect production matrices to differ. We will forward the matrices in question to you if you think it advisable. | ||
