Mr Tonge from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} C. WP. C. WH. C. EFC. U.W. October 25. 1918. BY9/P251018. CAMSHAFT CASING. X 3401 I have received your memo of the 23rd inst., EWT2/D231018 attaching copy of the Linotype Company's letter of the 22nd inst. I am passing on the six finished valve rocker levers, with a copy of the letter to EH, for his inspection. I am of the opinion that before we can make a decision on this question Mr Hives must run an endurance test in order to demonstrate that the rocker levers will not crack in service. For Mr Hives information, the particular question about the levers is, that they have been made very close to finished size in the original drop forging, and therefore there may be a greater liability in the levers to develop cracks than in our present type where material has been added to the forging from time to time, in order to overcome the tendency for cracks to develop as a result of the forging process. The advantage of the levers in question is, that they can be machined in considerably less time. I attach to Mr Hives copy of this letter, copy of the original correspondence. It is most important that we should have a report upon these levers without delay. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
