1135 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.5/MH.{M. Huckerby} 12th. January 1939. Messrs. Gates Rubber Co. Ltd., Denver, Colorado, U.S.A. For the attention of Mr. Winser. Dear Sirs, Referring to your letters of Oct. 27th. and Nov. 11th., for which we thank you, the pulley diameters we have quoted to you are outside diameters, and it is impossible for us to use larger pulleys owing to engine design limitations. As far as our tests are concerned (which as previously explained, consist of driving the car fan on a test bed, by an electric motor via the actual belt and pulleys used on the engine) the Ferogrip belt is now by far the best we have tested and these belts have run up to 30-35 hours without failure - further, under service conditions they are now entirely satisfactory. We feel, therefore, that this drive has now ceased to be a problem and that it is unnecessary for us to trouble you further with it - should you, however, be interested in the Ferogrip belt which has solved our troubles, we could certainly send you a couple as samples. I should like to conclude this correspondence by thanking you for your generous offers of assistance which you have made and by assuring you that if we are ever up against a real belt drive problem again, we shall get in touch with you at once. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
