HYDRAULIC SHOCK DAMPERS. x7520 x7940

We are sending these dampers to France for test filled with two types of oil. Those on the front with a very thin mineral oil we have obtained from Messrs. Wakefields and those on the rear with compressor oil which has approximately the same viscosity as the Lovejoy oil. We anticipate we shall have leaks from those filled with the very thin oil. However, the test will be of interest as an indication of what is the thinnest oil we can use with reasonable immunity from leakage.

With reference to the loading on these dampers. We have come across cars which have abnormal wobbling tendencies and upon which it is possible to experience with medium pressure tyres an occasional wobble with the front dampers at 80/40. 7-LC, in our recent tests in France was such a car. We are therefore proposing to make the front setting 100/50 to deal with such cases, and 12-EX is so adjusted.

We have only just obtained springs to give the required loading on the low pressure side of the rear dampers. These will be fitted up 100/50 before the car leaves for France.

Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /W. A. {Mr Adams} Robotham.
