To Bv from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to EH. c. to Bd.{Mr Berend} ORIGINAL R2/W14.1.18. 3 D RECEIVED 17 JAN 1918 X.3213 . Re - Slack Pump Gear. Mr. Hives has tested the amount of slack permissible in these gears and from his report I think we should permit of a maximum clearance of .050" and a minimum of .025". Will you kindly standardise this and get the drawings arranged so as to avoid the necessity of any fine work about the cutting of these gears. A.T. please prepare st.{Capt. P. R. Strong} sheet. etc It is assumed that in position on the engine the amount of slack will be perhaps greater than this extending from .020" to .060" which we assume will not cause any trouble.
