To utilise the re-adjustments to the best advantage, the following points should be observed.

(a) For town work, and similar conditions where the gear box has to be used, little or no gain will result from any attempt at economy.

(b) The maximum economy will be obtained on a straight run, on a level road at constant speeds not exceeding 50 m.p.h.

Running under this condition, it should be possible to put the mixture control lever at "run", and fully advance the ignition control. When accelerating from lower speeds in high gear, it will be necessary to richen the mixture, and to retard the ignition to reduce detonation.

The aim should be to use as much of the extra advance as the engine will take, and the same applies to the mixture control.
