BENTLEY 60. OIL PUMP.

Please receive herewith :-

E.CD.989 Recess for Tooth Pressure Release. B.60 Oil Pump.

A contributory cause to the trouble experienced of excessive wear of the spiral gears for the oil pump and distributor drive from the camshaft, may be due to the fact that a small overlap occurs on the oil pump gears during which the whole length of the gear teeth is in contact with its mating gears, thus causing a compression of oil in the roots of the gears.

To relieve this compression we have shown a milled recess in the oil pump cover located on the pressure side of the pump.

Will Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} please have this modification tried out on a pump to test its effect on the load required to drive the oil pump, and if found to be an improvement the detail of the pump cover should then be altered to show the recess.
