To A.{Mr Adams} c. to Ds. c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X 306 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/APW.24/JH.15.6.36. Phantom III Brake Weights. The weights of Ph.III brake assemblies on the axle ends, exclusive of hubs and pivots as not being parts of the brakes proper, are Rear (both sides) 156 lbs. Front (both sides) 114 lbs. ---------------- 270 lbs. ---------------- These figures do not appear to be much in excess of Ph.II weights, except in the case of drums and steel shoes, which have the following approximate increase. Rear drums (both sides) 14 lbs. Front drums (both sides) 12 lbs. Shoes (approx. total) 16 lbs. ---------------- total 42 lbs. ---------------- These increases are more or less the direct result of building a higher performance car, the extra weight counteracting increase of 'fading' and seizure. As regards the decrease of weight in the event of our being able to build successful light alloy drums, we have found on Bentley that the decrease of weight of drums is very small, so we are going to assume it would be zero in the case of Ph.III. | ||
