ON AIR MINISTRY, ADMIRALTY AND WAR OFFICE LISTS YOUR REF. OUR REF. CWW/WH. 7th. July 1941. W.A.Robotham Esq., Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}, Thanks for your letter of the 30th. ultimo, Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/ET., with provisional specification for the new B.V.body. This I am studying and will send you shortly any comments I may have to make. I am sorry to say it is quite impossible for me to come to Derby next week, as my Chief Inspector and Chief Progress man are on holiday. Would it be possible for Mr. Green to call here to discuss the points which you mention in the 2nd.paragraph of your letter? As regards the front seats, am I to understand that you want 2 pairs i.e. 1 pair of Green Tubular Seats and another of the Light Aircraft pattern Seats. I agree with Barclay that a certain number of customers ask for opening screens, although my experience, based upon the hundreds of cars which have passed through our Repair Department, is that few people take advantage of the ability to open the screen. Moreover, is it not a fact that the majority of American cars and Vauxhalls sold in this country have fixed screens? Why not have this first body built with a fixed screen in order to secure the benefit of the reduction in weight and improved vision, and if you feel that the public ought to have the option of an opening screen, then offer it to them as an alternative at an extra charge. Are you satisfied that anyone will accept perspex in the door windows? Our experience is that even in ordinary washing it scratches badly, and I cannot believe that the public would accept it. Why not have the lightened Aero pattern glass which we fitted in 12 B.V.? /over.......... | ||
