-2- Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/JH.18.2.40. We suggest we produce a detail of the outline of the box which shews these bosses undrilled and the number of this detail will be the piece number of the L.H. Gearbox casting. The following features no longer appear on this gearbox. (a) Front foot for mounting - Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} agrees. (b) Oil well for rear layshaft bearing - Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} agrees. (c) Boss for overdrive actuation - Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} agrees. (d) Selector shaft interlock - Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} agrees. The plain side cover RG.{Mr Rowledge}169 is suitable for all cars having Bijur lubrication. A special cover will be needed for the Tecalemit lubrication pump shewn on PL.122. (see separate memo.). All boxes should be fitted with the servo shaft having the requisite driving square. The oil trough on the cover is deleted because we have Timken bearings to the layshaft. The drain plugs to go onto the bottom cover as on GCD.1417 which will require detailing. An adjusting washer for the reverse actuating lever is required and if a suitable standard or existing washer cannot be found a new detail will have to be made. On the L.H. side change box we have increased the torsional rigidity of the change gear shaft inside the box - see PL.121 already issued to you. A blank cover is needed on the L.H.side of the box for R.H. change cars. When detailing the damper pump it should be remembered that the position of the oilways is shewn already on the gearbox detail. Please enter all details in the register.
