The condition and performance of various vehicle components after testing.

and no wear in bearing can be detected. The new side steering lever has not shown any signs of weakness, and the ball end is in good condition. The pivot pins and bearings are in a very good condition. We cannot detect any wear having taken place and pins are free from scoring. The N.S. steel thrust washer shows signs of scoring; the O.S. is O.K.

Front brakes & drums.
Improved dust covers G.52940-1-2-3-4. We are very pleased with the improved dust covers fitted to these. Our last week of running has been on wet sandy roads, the conditions being very severe. When brakes were dismantled for examination we found that only a slight amount of dirt had found its way through on to the inside of the cover. There was no dirt on the brakes. The condition of the brake shoes are very good, the braking surface shows more pressure on the heel of the shoes than on the toes. We presume that this was the cause of the squeaking that has been reported. There was no sign of oil on the shoes. Up to this mileage it has not been necessary to readjust the brakes. The brake drums are in good condition. The braking surface has remained smooth.

Front road springs.
650 lbs. Lemoine springs fitted with Wefco gaiters. The front springs have been examined and no signs of cracks can be seen. The tie clips became loose early in the test through the centre rivets giving way. The springs have maintained their flexibility, the action of the shock dampers have no doubt been the chief factor as we have not experienced the heavy hitting of buffers on bad roads as previously experienced. The rear and front anchorage from outside examination appear to be in good condition. The spring clips have remained tightened up.

Front shock dampers.
These have continued to function as previously reported. No weakness of fittings has been noticed. It has been necessary to recharge these with oil owing to the leaks from shaft on O.S. and cap on N.S. The N.S. leak we have now cured.

Clutch.
The clutch has been erratic in stopping when hot and cold. We have not been able to improve it by adjusting the operating levers. We also find no difference whether clutch pedal is fully depressed or half. We cannot say what is the cause without dismantling. It has been smooth in action when engaging and no sign of slipping has occurred.

Gearbox.
There has been no deterioration of gearbox, gears have remained good and no sign of any gears coming out of mesh. The oil leaks have remained the same as previously reported.
