83499. C O P Y. S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LTD., 26/33, COX STREET, LIVERY STREET, BIRMINGHAM. FGE/MM. 8th September, 1932. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, FOR THE ATTENTION OF MR. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} ROYCE. OIL VALVE THERMOSTAT. We beg to enclose herewith the modified oil valve Thermostat referred to in our last letter. This has been filled with a spirit of the lowest boiling point which it is practicable to use and under a load of 3½ lbs pressure to the square inch, and at a lift of .150", the valve closes at 45° centigrade. As pointed out in our last letter, the ratio of lift to the length of bellows is not enough to allow of any great flexibility in a bellows of such small diameter, and we would advise the use of a thermostat with a bellows at least twice as long in order to ensure the closing of the valve at the required temperature of 30°c. Awaiting your comments, Yours faithfully, P.p. S. Smith & Sons (Motor Accessories) Ltd., (Sgd) F.G.Eckford. Midland Engineer. | ||
