With reference to the attached invoices from Sanderson & Holmes.

18-G4. Frankly, we are surprised at their charges, and think they should reduce them further.

The work done from July 8th. to August 20th., amounts to the normal procedure of mounting a body plus -
(1) Painting the wings and chassis and making a tyre well.
(2) Fitting and supplying two running boards.
(3) Considerable alterations to the front wings.

With the exception of a few hours they put in here the car was for the whole of the time at their works, and therefore they cannot say that they were perpetually being held up by our experimental work. The chassis was handed over to them and they had a free hand.

The second large item which they put in at £22.16.0d. also seems to be high, but not in the same proportion.

When dealing with Messrs. Sanderson & Holmes it must be appreciated that they are of very great service to us. They do the work remarkably well and entirely regardless of their convenience. Also, in the case of the experimental chassis which cannot go to London coachbuilders, we should find it difficult to train another Provincial coachbuilding firm to do what we want. However, we think it should be impressed upon Messrs. Sanderson & Holmes that they will have to reduce their charges or we shall be forced to make other arrangements.

22-EX. invoice is high but a certain amount of over-time was worked on this chassis for a definite reason.

We actually put a job up to a Nottingham firm a little time ago in competition with Sanderson & Holmes, on a £30 estimate the difference in the quotation was only a few shillings.
