LUBRICATOR ON REAR UNIVERSAL JOINT.

Apparently the letter containing our latest instructions concerning the position of the lubricator on the rear universal joint has gone astray. The history of the case is somewhat as follows:-

(1) After numerous complaints from Sales about the lubricator in its present position we sent you 2 suggestions for a modified position, in our DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/M3923.

(2) This was followed by our DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M14923, together with N.sch. 1456. shewing a scheme for one of the proposals in (1).

(3) In your BY/C8/P26224, you pointed out that the lubricator in this position fouled features on the battery box, and sent us LF.416. shewing a sloping pitch on the face of the heelboard, suggested to overcome the trouble in immediate cases.

(4) In the letter which has gone astray we agreed to the use of the scheme on LF.416. for cars immediately in production, and suggested that a print shewing this information should be sent to Sales for distribution to coachbuilders.

(5) Two further suggestions were made concerning future cars - one was to screw the Enots lubricator into the sliding cover on the propeller shaft which is held up by a spring, as indicated in the second sketch on our DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/M3923. The other suggestion was that the battery be reversed in its box so that the terminal box would be on the side facing the side channel, where the present earth wire goes out, and that the earth wire could be brought out either with a small fitting on the propeller shaft side, or preferably also on the other side. This would leave the battery box clean opposite the joint, and N.scheme 1456. becomes possible. We are inclined to favour this suggestion, as the virtue of the scheme is that even though the lubricator be knocked off, the joint will lose no oil thereby, and can be re-oiled by means of a grease gun until a repair can be effected. Will you therefore make a sketch of a battery box on these lines, and let us know if there are any difficulties.

Since this matter is rather urgent we would like to get a modified design tried, and standardised, as soon as possible.
