Minutes of 77th Meeting of R-R T.C.
CJ7/D221111 With reference to the opinion recorded by the Technical Committee that they do not consider that the interests of the Company are being served by attempting speed records with a standard chassis modified for racing purposes, I would like to remind the Committee that Mr Royce was in favour of making the best possible speed record with a standard chassis and gave notes for the design of a body specially for this purpose, and that the records which we are going for are more than speed records, - they are speed plus reliability.
Our competitors in trade have always brought it up as a reproach against the Rolls-Royce that they might be very nice, gentle, ladylike cars, but they could not go.
