Bailey - Chief Engineer} Copy to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 4304 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} [struck through] ---------------- Phantom III Side Wheel Carrier Step Brackets. ----------------------------------- Due to the almost universal use of tyre covers on spare wheels the Coachbuilders find it necessary to use a deeper and wider wheel well in the wing. The cover adds approximately 2" on to the diameter of the wheel, consequently the existing step bracket D75195 has an inadequate amount of step. We send herewith LeC 5004 showing a modified pressing fulfilling the Coachbuilders' requirements, and any further step brackets that are ordered should be ordered to this design. We understand that a quantity of the original step bracket D75195 is in stock. On LeC 5009 herewith we show a suggestion for modifying these so that they may be used up. We have discussed the matter with Ws/Wakefield and we believe that a simple die can be made for pressing these from the existing shape shown in red, to the shape shown in pencil. The existing strut to the wing D75119 can be used by merely straightening it. We suggest that this piece be modified for all cars.
