CHASSIS NO. 3.AZ-66. MRS. FYFE JAMIESON.

With reference to the oil seal to the rear axle, which burnt out, I would like to know whether the car in question has been on the Continent, if so, then long straight runs at high speed will certainly raise the temperature of the oil.in the rear axle to such a point that it will burn the leather.

If the car has not been abroad, then we think possibly that it was not soaked in oil before erection.

On later cars with the large axle shaft, the pressure on the leather has been reduced. Furthermore, we are experimenting with 'Gaco' instead of leather, as 'Gaco' will stand up to 120 to 130°C indefinitely.
