Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X4086 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}3/LG7.4.22. 6-GOSHAWK-11. X4086 X4219 We have wired you today as follows:- "SIX GOSHAWK CROSSING TO BOULOGNE MONDAY AFTERNOON BOAT WITH BULLAMORE ROYCE INSTRUCTIONS YOU PROCEED WITH THIS CAR TO LECANADEL WRITING - PLATFORD". This is the latest instruction and arrangement, and I take it, it is the intention of R.{Sir Henry Royce} to have a general consultation with yourself and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, also to try out 6-Goshawk-11 as compared with 4-Goshawk-11 and also to obtain from you full information re. the running of 5-Goshawk-11 so that some definite policy can be arranged re. the first batch of production Goshawk-11 chassis. As far as possible, we have tried to fix to 6-Goshawk-11 features which have been considered and condoned by R.{Sir Henry Royce} as improvements, experimentally or otherwise. We are anxious, however, to retain one of these modern cars at the Works, such as 4/5/6 or 7-Goshawk-11, so as to carry on investigation and experimental work instructed and with reference to complaints and experimental work instructed and it has now been agreed to by CJ. and BJ. that 6-Goshawk-11 or 5-Goshawk-11 could be used for this purpose as long as one of these cars is continually kept running by you in France to complete the 10,000 miles test. If it is considered that 6-Goshawk-11 is satisfactory for production, then by all means carry on the running of this car after leaving Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence, but if it is considered there, that the car is not satisfactory, could you please arrange for this car to be returned to the Works with Bullamore or one of the drivers' so that we can carry out our investigation and test work as suggested or instructed from Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence. The following are features in connection with 6-Goshawk-11 which are of special interest:- 1. Carburation. This carburetter is fixed up with jet restrict-ors which have the reduced size slots as recently instructed from Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence. We have also supplied amongst the spares of this car, special cone jets, various sizes of high speed jet throats and air valve without air slots cut as instructed by R.{Sir Henry Royce} for experimental purposes. We have, as far as possible, supplied [sufficient is crossed out] tools and tackle as we feel may be required to work on the carburetter. 2. Steering - joggling. We are fix[ing] the plain thrust bearing in the steering column and supplying the standard bearing amongst the spares. We also propose supplying amongst the spares the steering connecting tube with buffer springs at each end. We shall attempt, if possible, to try out these contd:- | ||
