these features on the car before delivery and will, if possible, fix up the car with what we think is the best scheme; the remaining parts, however, will then be available as spares. (in the car)

3. We have experienced on this car the trouble with loss of water, but we have not made any alteration to the water system at present. We should be glad, however, if you will specially note this when driving the car. Since the car has been fixed up with the body complete, we do not appear to have had the same trouble with loss of water as we experienced when the chassis was new and driven from Derby to the Coachbuilders.

4. Spring shackles. These are fixed up with hardened steel washers where the springs themselves fix into the shac-kles or dumb irons. But where the shackle fits on to the frame, hardened steel washers are not used - the clearances in all cases have been made correct to drawing. This is the scheme as now instructed as far as the Works are concerned. Gaiters are also fixed to the shackles and dumb irons which is the sample set supplied by the Wefco Gaiter Co. who have also fixed gaiters to the springs. We should be glad if you will note the behaviour of these spring shackles and springs and the efficacy of the gaiters. We have also fixed some sample steering joint covers. These we are hoping to improve.

As regards the shackle covers - these are fairly good for the first attempt and we are getting the Wefco people to try another sample set of which we are fixing on 7-Goshawk-11 along with some steering joint covers made on the same lines and which will totally enclose these joints and not just the tube as is the case on 6-Goshawk-11. The shackle cover which we think wants re-constructing, is the front end of the rear spring. This is certainly very difficult to enclose and we should be glad if this fixing could be considered and some slight additional alteration made so as to make it more convenient for a shackle gaiter to be adapted. What we want is some place on the shackle to which we anchor the binding strap.

5. Clutch. The clutch on this car is the same as 4/5-Goshawk-11 and at present works very well. We found we could not satisfactorily fix the 120 lbs. springs as requested by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} as these springs do not give sufficient clearance in the spring holder. 6-Goshawk-11 and 7-g-11 still, therefore, have 100 lbs. springs. There is no sign, at least, on these cars, of the clutch slipping. We are, however, pressing ahead with the 120 lbs. type of spring and will arrange for these to be supplied for fixing as soon as we can procure springs suitable.

6. Brakes. The rear brakes on this car are made exactly as per present standard instructions.
