| Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} X.250 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} From Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/HP.1.5.34. c. For. S. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RMC. HDY.{William Hardy} Bentley Steering Column. Herewith are three modifications to the standard column, asked for by Sft.{Mr Swift} in the interests of economy, in Sft.{Mr Swift}1/LH.{Mr Haworth}9.4.34, Sft.{Mr Swift}3/CH.17.4.34 and Sft.{Mr Swift}4/DH.{D. Henderson - Showroom}10.4.34. They are:- (1) Instead of the lock washer which now locks the taper plug at the bottom of the control assembly, a square headed rivet is put into the taper socket fitting one of the existing locking slots in the plug, and so avoiding the necessity of dismantling the control assembly when erecting. There is a scheme for using existing plug pieces and one for future. (2) The locking piece for the nut on the centre double thrust bearing on the column has the outer serrations now used for receiving the lock washer tab, removed, the tab washer being now held by the slots in the worm tube. (3) The separate collar used for securing the felt on the stationary tube is formed in one with the quadrant carrier, the groove for the felt being turned in position after brazing.
