-2- Inlet to be taken from a tapping in the main pressure and the outlet to the rocker pressure. Arrange taps so that the oil flows may be taken. Observe effect on oil pressures when idling. (5) Gears quietened and engine finalled off for fitting in chassis. B.17. Continue test for endurance of bearing as stated in previous memo. K.L.G. sparking plugs E.27 to be run during endurance on Ethyl fuel. A.C. filter which is fitted in the oil system to be periodically checked for flow. Condition of oil to be noted when endurance is finished and sample sent in to the Lab. Report of sparking plugs required. No. 5 Bed. PHANTOM No.14. Continental Unit. Continue with induction depression and carburetter tests until No.6. is completed. Sparking plug position query of last memo. No.6.Unit The unit to be run for following various tests and on completion to be given some endurance for bearings. (1) Valve Bounce With the hydraulic tappets in action as std., does A.{Mr Adams} side which is being fitted with single springs bounce before 4500 R.P.M. with the result that valves are held open resulting in power loss. Plunger clearance has been brought up to present Production limits of .0015 - .002. Observations with rotorscope to see if any bounce occurs, or quick shutting down to see if valves are open. | ||
