No.30 Bed.

O.H.C. Bentley Unit No.23.

Following investigation of internal water leaks and report, tests are being continued until Wraith No.2 Unit is received.

(1) Tests with small bore induction system and standard Bentley carbs.

(2) Tests with close coiled valve springs which are being made in Swedish wire by the Tempered Spring Co. with a view to curing surge for quietness and spring failures.

(3) Test of C. & A.{Mr Adams} cylinder head gasket that has been ordered.

(4) If by C. and A.{Mr Adams} gasket or other means can the internal leak be cured sufficient to have run in chassis if necessary? To get correct water pressures in the system, this should be run with a radiator in position in place of our test bed tank in the roof.

(5) If the water leak can be cured then the gears can be quietened by production people.

Wraith No. 2.

When this engine is received we must temporarily interrupt the O.H.C. programme and remove the latter. Usual tests to be carried out on the Wraith prior to having the gears quietened on the bed. These tests to include the following:-

(1) Running in a power curve.
(2) Slow running with the 2 inlet cam camshaft in which we expect increase max. MEP. camshaft slight drop in max. BHP.
(3) Oil pressure and if any relief valve noise or start-ing noise from the oil pump with new relief damper valves and revised springs.
(4) A new A.C. oil filter will be provided for tests with a view to incorporating on Wraith (3) design.
