(I8) The cubic capacity arrived at for the whole number of cylinders will be rounded off to cubic centimetres. The round figures will be obtained by raising by one the figure to be adopted when the next figure is equal to or greater than 5. The checking of the cylinder capacities, both in France and abroad, will be carried out before the race. Competitors should apply to the Automobile Club de l'Ouest so that a race Steward may call at their works or garages - or someone appointed by the race Stewards entrusted with the checking and marking of engines. Competitors must have the cylinder capacities of their engines checked at their works. The dismantling of the engine is compulsory. The travelling expenses shall be borne by competitors when it is necessary to go to the provinces outside from the Paris area. In the case of foreign cars, the race Stewards may also appoint a deputy to carry out the checking in the factories or garages or empower the sporting body of the country recognised by the I.A.R.A.C. Applications for the checking of cylinder capacities, and the holding of engines in readiness, may be made as from the 1st. April 1939, and should be addressed to the Automobile-Club de l'Ouest, place de la{L. A. Archer} République at Le Mans. In any case, these must have been received, at latest, on the 20th. May 1939, at 6 p.m. The checker of the cubic capacity appointed by the A.C.O. or by the national Automobile-Clubs is responsible for forwarding the certificate relating to the checking of the cubic capacity to the organisers. A duplicate of said certificate will be handed to the competitor and should be tendered by him during the checking operations of Tuesday 13th. and Wednesday 14th. June 1939, at the Halle aux Toiles. Competitors whose applications for the checking of the cubic capacity have failed to reach the headquarters of the A.C.O. by the 20th. May at 6 p.m. and who have not, at that date, placed the engines at the disposal of the checker will incur a fine of 500 francs and a fine of 100 francs for every day's delay after the aforementioned date. In the event of a competitor not having made application nor held his engine in readiness on the aforementioned dates, the distance imposed on said competitor will be 3,000 kilometres. In addition, said competitor will be fined Fcs. 1000. In every respect the car must comply with the obligations of the class with the greatest cubic capacity. No application for the checking of the cubic capacity can be made, for any reason whatsoever, after June 1st., at 6 p.m. inclusively.
