STANDARD PHANTOM DYNAMO BUT WITH 28 SLOT ARMATURE. (TH.65).

We thank you for your report ref. Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}5/T27.6.27

We had noticed that the brushes were a little bit noisy, a feature which can be improved by skimming the commutator after the armature has been run on load, though we did not have that done in this instance. We also agree that the output was rather high, but we purposely left it at this in view of the fact that the machine had to be tried for magnetic silence and that the control brush position cannot readily be altered on these standard machines.

The higher output with the same brush angles is due to the slightly different characteristics of this armature from standard.

We are taking steps to correct the relation of the commutator of this 28 slot armature so that when these armatures are inserted in the standard machine, the output will be the same as standard. Having done that we hope to give you an opportunity of trying two further armatures of this type in some of your standard machines which are otherwise noisy.
