X4429 We propose letting Firths know that we do not propose to adopt the scheme of clips made solid with the plate because of the difficulties pointed out by you as regards replacements. We have made enquiries from the Repair Dept. and they say they have had no trouble whatever with the forged clips rivetted to the plates as fitted to the original Firths springs - there are hundreds of cars on the road with these clips. The original sheet metal ones do fail in the corners. Springfield are using the simple clip rivetted to the plates. Paris are using large quantities of Lemoine springs which have a simple clip rivetted to the plates. If we can obtain satisfaction with a simple rivetted clip, it would make the position much easier if at any time we wished to manufacture our own springs. We recommend that the next car to run 10,000 miles should be fitted with simple forged clips rivetted to the plates. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
