SHEET 3 TEST NO.11 CONE CLUTCH TYPE SERVO - 98-HK{Col. T. Harker - Sales} CAR. EXPERIMENTAL REPORT REF: Expl. No. TROUBLES. MILEAGE. CAUSE OR REMEDY. Throttle governor seized up. 1400 Old type front axle and side steering tube springs. New axle fitted later and new springs much improved steering. very hard for road shocks. Front brakes jagger. Brake equal. Action remains constant but servo efficiency varies very considerably owing to oil on servo liner. Jaggering overcome on later cars. Servo system discarded - this was the only one of its type tested. Dynamo inaccessible for examination. Rectified in later designs. Steering arm bolts stretched on two occasions and one bolt broke. 5200 7907 Bolts made larger in dia. in later design. A.T. speedometer - mileage indicator not working. 2000 Driving pinion - several teeth broken. Oil leaks from bottom of pivots. Later axle design overcame this trouble. Exhaust throttle seizing up. Exhaust system re-designed. Rear shock absorber bracket on axle broken. 5221 Design of bracket modified. 3 exhaust valves burnt out. 5521 Use of silchrome steel flat topped valves on later cars proved successful. A.T. speedometer failed. 10176 Returned to makers. Spare wheel carrier broken. Coachbuilders design. Windscreen broken. TOTAL MILEAGE OF TEST - 9,449. R.R. 493A (50H) (D.B. 175 25-9-24) J.H.D. | ||
