( C O P Y ) Re Axle Periods. CJ1/IW10214. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} With reference to the attached memorandum, re. Axle Periods, we must not stop output because of these periods. It is an undersirable thing to have on a car but there is no danger in it. I am rather confused in the matter. My impression is that we received a report to say that the engine coupling with the damped spring type was not necessary because the period of which you now complain could scarcely be detected by some of our best experts. Now you say that Mr. Wormald, Mr. Haldenby and yourself agree that this period is quite objectionable. It seems to me that what is to be decided is which is the more objectionable, the period which occurs if the solid engine coupling with the damped spring type is not fitted, or the excessive wearing of blocks and the breaking of springs which occur in connection with the use of this type of coupling. I should like the opinion of Mr. Wormald, Mr. Nadin, Mr. Haldenby, Mr. Hives and yourself as to what is the proper answer to this question. | ||
