Scuttle isolation schemes for the 20.HP and 25/30 chassis models.

We send herewith N.sch. 1834. shewing a scheme of isolation for the Goshawk, similar to that at present adopted by Sales. The lower bolts are used to hold the scuttle down and to steady its sides instead of the usual clips used by the coachbuilder for this purpose. The instrument board is attached to the scuttle only and no instrument board brackets are needed except for the delivery of the chassis. These could be of pieces of bent strip iron. To make the 'D' type column sufficiently rigid we wish to make the outer fixed tube of B.W.G.8. .160" thick, which is approximately an increase in stiffness of 50%. Should this be insufficient a still thicker gauge should be tried. For immediate use the offside instrument board bracket only should be retained, and used only to steady the column, and not attached to the board. This has been used on a number of cars at coachbuilders. Will Derby please arrange to experimentally try this scheme, and also arrange for London to fit a car up with the necessary pieces. If satisfactory, we would like a drawing similar to N.sch: 1834. to be made for supplying to coachbuilders. [Purple Stamp: RECEIVED IN EXP. DEPT] 25/30. CHASSIS. Although total isolation has been used on this chassis for some while, we are inclined to believe that with such the relative movement between the scuttle and dashboard is excessive, and therefore suggest that similar scheme to that on N.sch: 1834. should be tried. Will Derby please set out the same, using the same section channel and the same bolts and fittings, and carry out the experiments. It is important that the top bolts should not be too tightly screwed up, but that the rubber should be only lightly compressed. The lower ones can be pulled up more.
