Setting of Window Winder Handles.

At the present time there is a general tendency to fit window winder handles pointing horizontally rearwards with windows up.

Rear windows in particular spend almost the whole of their time closed, and the horizontal position can cause finger trapping with the door handle locked. If the window winder handle is set to be parallel to the door handle in its normal central position the stylists are satisfied and the likelihood of finger trapping is very much reduced, since it will then be found that it is very seldom desirable in practice to adjust the window height so as to leave the handle pointing horizontally backwards.

While on this subject it seems desirable to record our interpretation of the correct settings for all handles.

1) The front door handle should point vertically downwards in its normal central position.

2) The front window winder handle should point vertically downwards with the window shut.

3) The rear door handle should point vertically downwards when locked, its normal central position being slightly to the rear of vertical.

4) The rear window winder handle should be parallel to the door handle in its normal central position (i.e. again pointing slightly to the rear vertically downwards)
