102c (Experimental Dept.) Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}1/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 8th March, 1937. The Hoyt Metal Company, Putney, LONDON. S.W.15. Dear Sirs, We are writing regarding the Bentley bearing shells which were sent to you for metalling with "Satco." In our letter Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}17/JH.18.12.37. we agreed, in accordance with your wishes, to hold over the metalling with "Satco" for a week or so, and would like to know if you can now give us any further information on the subject. As tested on the bed we found very little improvement in the Z.3 W/M as compared with our normal W/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} This comparison, however, is being tried out further on a Phantom III car which has half of each type of bearing metal over a long mileage, and the result of which we will let you know. We have had enquiries with regard to a bearing jig. E.33477/8 HB.{C. E. Harcombe}1403/4 which you borrowed some time ago, and if you have finished with this, would be pleased if you would return it to our Tinsmiths Department, under the care of Mr. W. Smith. Other than the Bentley shells to be lined with "Satco", have you made any bearings with the aforementioned jig ? Yours faithfully, For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
