To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from AJS. c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8300 AJS1/M22. 7.26. PHANTOM CLUTCH: X. 8300 X. 7300 In order to prevent the squeaking of the lever fulcrums on this unit, Mr. Royce is of the opinion that we should use Kelmit metal bushes, or any more suitable metal, with small flanges pressed into the ears from the inside on the clutch cover. The length of the clutch lever boss can be shortened by the amount of the thickness of the bush flanges. Before adopting this scheme as standard we would like it thoroughly tested out as we may find it better to use a bush in the lever. The sketch below indicates the proposed scheme. AJS.
