R.R. 235a (500 T) (S.D. 408. 26-4-17.) Bm. 2/156/13. X 4233 E3/G5.5.19. To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. c. to Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} c. to EH. c. to EFC. RE X. 20 H.P. WHEELCASE GEARING X.3551. We send you herewith drawing No. LeC.1080 giving a half-scale diagram of the 20 H.P. wheelcase gearing. This is supposed to be advance information which will enable you to get the necessary cutters ordered. It has been found necessary to use module teeth for the lower camshaft drive, and for the gears driving the magneto and water pump. The figures given on the drawing are obtained by some slide-rule calculations only, and the intention is that the exact calculations should be made at Derby. The necessary cutters may be ordered for cutting the crankshaft pinion, the intermediate wheel, the dynamo driving wheel, the power camshaft drive gears, the magneto and water pump gears. The upper camshaft drive should at present be left untouched, but we hope to supply you with the exact distance between the centres of the camshafts very shortly. You will note that all the right angle drives are worm gears. Kindly send us a blue print of LeC.1080 as soon as possible. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
