2. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.10/MH.{M. Huckerby} have already sent you such a cooler and would like to receive it back (redipped) with the minimum of delay, for examination. We want to know this because it is beginning to look as though we may have to change all the hand soldered coolers in service - approximately 15 - 20 of these have now failed. With regard to the date of commencement of dipping etc. The date which you gave the writer (Jan.18th,) means that only coolers from No. E.386 onwards are dipped, we are therefore, not fitting any coolers below this number. The writer saw a cooler No. E.349 from production stock, tested this morning - this appeared to be of the dipped type, but was leaking and will be returned to you by the normal course - however, it seems to conflict somewhat with the date which you gave us. We shall, however, adhere to the E.386 onwards proceedure and only fit coolers numbered above this figure. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
