HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ) FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} (crossed out) SECRET. ORIGINAL (stamp) DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M7.1.29. 'SS{S. Smith}' BRAKES. X7420 (crossed out) X7360 X52420 We believe that the duralumin forged brake shoes are very expensive. Since aluminium has answered satisfactorily on the Phantom front brakes, and on the 20HP. front and rear brakes for a very long time we think it would be worth while trying aluminium castings on the rear brakes. With duralumin it is not possible to save very much weight as one dare not reduce the thickness beyond a certain point, and at this thickness aluminium seems to answer quite well.
