FALCON X - CARBURATION. X3933

Mr. Davey, from Claudel Hobson, has been making some adjustments on the carburetters in the vee and incidentally given us some information as to how they get over the flat spot when the main diffuser is about to come into action. The sketch illustrates the idea employed. The transverse passage increasing the suction on the low speed passage and allowing mixture to flow from both sides of the butterfly throttle also from the centre. He does not claim that this eliminates the difficulty, but states that the device in practice definitely improves the low speed carburation characteristics. However, from the results at present being obtained from the RR. F.X. carburetters, it does not appear that it will be necessary to test out this device. Messrs. Claudel Hobson are also employing annular chokes by means of which the petrol is fed through a number of circumferential holes situated in the throat of the venturi. One essential to successful contd:-

Small hole for petrol flow
Restricted passage.
Small holes drilled to reduce the effect of transverse passage as required.
