COPY. A31/H.29.5.22. Re: Chassis No. 154-DW - Hopkins. In reply to your CJ2/HE.26.5.22, I beg to report as follows, please:- The matter dealt with in the second paragraph of the letter attached to yours, took place fully 6 months ago, as far as can be recollected. I think I am correct in saying that what happened was that Mr. Hopkins called here and discussed the question of batteries. The set upon his car was obviously faulty, and we suggested that if he called upon the makers they would probably lend him a set while they repaired his own. We telephoned to the makers, explained the circumstances, and he dealt with them direct from that time forward. We, of course, pointed out to Mr. Hopkins that although batteries are excluded from the terms of our guarantee, we are nevertheless anxious to do everything we possibly can to assist owners who may experience trouble with them. This assistance we gave him as far as we could. With regard to the last two lines, I feel this is a question which could be answered better by the Designing Department in Derby. I believe it has already been under consideration whether the fitting of a cut-out would be an improvement, but I understand that Messrs. Lucas & Co. think that it is not necessary.
