-2- As regards 1., it is claimed that this trouble has been overcome by having clearance between base-plate and body. As regards 2., it is thought that more care in the initial adjustment will eliminate this trouble. In connection with 3, little more can be done than keep the relay under observation for more definite evidence. As regards 4, vents have been made in the flare of the trumpet behind the gauze which should more or less cure the trouble due to snow, although it has not yet been proved. A further step, in an effort to cope with the moisture trouble, consists of placing the vents farther inwards towards the throat. It is doubtfull, however, whether this will be entirely successful in preventing choking of the throat. We expressed the opinion that the design allowed little or no margin of safety, and that our feeling was that we would like to reduce the operating current and get rid of the relay; the latter being an additional potential source of trouble. In this connection we suggested increasing the windings on the horns, and also using the simpler type of unit with the long trumpet. In reply it was suggested that any concrete proposals for radical alterations should come from our side. It was complained that evidence of cause of failure was frequently lost or spoilt through our people removing the brackets from the horns. It was emphasised that where horns are returned they should have the brackets on them and be as near as possible untouched. Also that horns may have anything from no loading weights up to three. Headlamps. We ascertained that progress is being made with the third pair of lamps of the P.100 X type. These are to have ribbed reflections. Units for Bentley car. We were informed that the scheme for the dynamo apart from minor alterations was ready for approval. It is understood that it will have the tachometer gearing, although R.R. design have decided to remove this drive from the dynamo. continued | ||
