- 6 - HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH.{R. Hollingworth}1/VS.{J. Vickers}23.9.37. Water Pump (Continued) Wear on spindle and bearings normal for the mileage. The Thrust Pad had worn .025, however, and the "float" in the spindle was .029. The rotor blades had as usual fouled the Pump Casing. The "Palmetto" gland packing was in satisfactory condition. Oil Pump LOP.E.86843. This was in good condition throughout. Oil Filler LOP.E.84983. We consider that the filler cap on this is a poor job, and we understand that it leaked badly during the test. There was no tension whatever on the sealing washer when examined. We recommend that a Bentley type Filler Cap (as used on Wraith III) be standardised for all cars. Oil Level Indicator LOP.E.88771. Condition good. The Cork Floats had shrunk slightly and loosened on the steel arm - this is not detrimental. The drain tap had been slightly damaged, probably when the engine was removed from the chassis. Oil Temperature Regulator LOP.E.87990. Not in use during the last 1,600 miles. The alum. casing was corroded inside and we understand that tests are to be made with the "Anodic" treatment to prevent this. The Matrix unit was in good condition and was pressure tested at 200 lbs/sq.in., which it held for 15 mins. without signs of leaking. continued. | ||
