LEFT HAND SS.{S. Smith} VALVE TAPPET MECHANISM.

Referring to E2/M9.2.29. which gives a
series of proposals for making the left hand American
engine based on R5/M3.2.29., it has been decided that
No.1 scheme meets our requirements most fully.

We have gone carefully into the question
of clearance between the tappet rod and the upper tube,
and find that we can increase the tube sufficiently to
maintain our present clearance, and at the same time maintain
the clearance between the tube and the ports.
