HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}6/VS.{J. Vickers}24.11.38.

Valves and Fittings - continued.

All top and bottom valve spring washers are badly marked on the face which contacts with the spring.

Inlet Pipes.

This section - to LOP.EB.3579 - is satisfactory.

Carburetters.

The above - produced by S.U. - are in good condition.

Air Silencer.

To LOP.EB.3523 - this is satisfactory.

Camshaft.

Produced to Ex.31550 incorporating cam forms to E.CD.681/2.

The camshaft is very satisfactory, this also applies to the camwheel EW.1880/1 supplied by Attwaters. No cam balancer was fitted.

The camshaft has been tested and found free from cracks.

Dynamo Drive.

To LOP.EW.1438 incorporating EW.1728 Driving Gear - general condition satisfactory.

The gear shows slight markings from the camwheel but is otherwise good.

Engine Gears.

The following engine gear backlash figures have been obtained :-

Between Crankshaft Pinion and Camwheel before Test .0005-.001.
" " " " after " .0025.

Between Camwheel & Dynamo Gear before test - .001-.0015.
" " " after " - .00175.
