UNIT - CHASSIS 3.B.IV. Strip Report After 16,900 Miles in France. Crankcase and Bearings LOP.EB.2737. Crankcase Ex.19357 (T.H.) cracked slightly in the radii on each side of No. 7 bearing housing. - otherwise O.K. Main Bearings in A/C.2 Material. These were in excellent condition, considering the mileage, though lightly grooved. No. 4 bearing was slightly cracked, but none of them were slack in the bearing housings. Herewith chart giving dimensions. Crankshaft LOP.EB.2700. 2 holes in Journals and Pins. The crankpins of this shaft (EB.2687) which had run on A/C.7 big-end bearings, were in excellent condition, wear being slight and the surfaces smooth. The journals, however, were grooved and worn. The Hoffman No. 125 bearing for 1st Motion Shaft was in good condition. The weight of "sludge" found in the crankpins and journals was 5 ozs. 12 gms. Spring Drive LOP.EB.129. New centre plate E.59383 and driving dogs E.59384/5 fitted 25. 3. 37. - mileage 11,500. The centre plate failed at approximately 5,400 miles from the commencement of the test. It was fitted new 20. 10. 36. to replace the previous one which had failed. We notice that since 29. 8. 34. no less than 6 new centre plates and one complete new spring drive have been fitted to this unit! The cotton-duck washer had been trapped between the continued. | ||
