IMPROVEMENTS ON S2 SALOONS

The following notes set out items discussed and agreement reached at a meeting held in Crewe on 19th February 1960 to discuss improvements on S2 saloons.

Action

1 New range of colour schemes
LS suggested that the two least popular standard colours were to be relegated to "customer's request" range and the two most popular "customer's request" colours were to be promoted to the standard range. JPB was to review this suggestion and submit recommendations. JPB
There should be no increase in cost if this suggestion is implemented but it was agreed that a price review should be made to determine whether a commercial price is being charged for "customer's request". Hpd

2 Distinguishing mark for S2 cars
JPB was instructed to suggest possible distinguishing marks for review by Sales department and retailers. JPB

3 Electrically operated aerial
It was agreed that this would remain a customer's request item.
A Cadillac unit is to be obtained by SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister} and fitted to LS' car. SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}
LS complained of trouble with his present aerial in bad weather and it was agreed that further development work should be carried out on aerials to improve their performance. Kgt

4 Sliding door to front door pocket
It was agreed to provide this feature on both doors at no extra charge to the customer. The date of introduction is the Motor Show 1960.
The estimated additional cost of this feature is £1 2 4d together with the tooling cost of £40. It was agreed to fit plastic slides to give smoother action and the additional cost thereof has been included in the above figure.

5 Split bench seats
It was agreed that this feature was to remain a customer's request item.
Consideration was to be given to the possibility of making the feature standard equipment on cars for USA and a price review was to be made on this basis. Hpd

6 Detachable footrests
The rectangular type of footrests as included on LS' car were to be offered as an optional extra.
The estimated prime cost of these footrests is £2 17 5d per pair and the development department were instructed to examine the possibility of using cheaper materials and methods of manufacture. Kgt
The price of this feature was to be notified to the Sales department based on the revised costs. Hpd
