1229. BY APPOINTMENT VACUUM OIL COMPANY LIMITED GARGOYLE TELEPHONE WHITEHALL 1010 (14 LINES) TELEGRAMS VACUUM PHONE LONDON CAXTON HOUSE . WESTMINSTER LONDON . S . W . 1 REFERENCE OTJ. 22nd March 1937 S. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Grylls Esq., Messrs Rolls Royce Limited, Nightingale Lane, DERBY. Dear Mr. Grylls, Mr. Russell Sharp spoke to me regarding the subject of propellor shaft lubrication, and the discussion he had with you in connection with the plunging joints. We have always had very good results with MOBILGREASE NO.2. on such parts, and as you are already recommending this grade in the Instruction Books for the Universal Joints themselves, it would probably be convenient to users of Rolls Royce cars for the same grade of lubricant to be recommended. There is an illustration of the part under discussion on Page 77 of your Phantom 3 Instruction Books No.X., but the method of lubrication is not entirely clear, unless it is merely a question of smearing the parts. Maybe it is possible to introduce a grease gun nipple, and a grease distributing groove or gutter. Yours very truly, VACUUM OIL COMPANY LIMITED. O.{Mr Oldham} Jones Chief Engineer.
