The above tests have shown some rather interesting features. X With the Polyrhoe we have not been able to obtain firing in the silencer under any conditions of running as long as the ignition is on. The double throttle with our carburettor has certainly given less troble in this respect, but is not as good as the Polyrhoe. To summerise the results of the experiments, what actually appears to take place is that our carburettor does not under full power high speed conditions, give off as good a "mixture" as the Polyrhoe, the induction pipe becoming somewhat charged with raw petrol, and on "retard" even although no explosive gas passes through the throttle, any air which passes through the induction pipe carries with it the petrol which passes through the engine, probably too strong but forms an explosive gas in the silencer.
